The entire front side is made of windows and sliding glass doors. But you can shut the actual containers doors over them to protect them. We don’t cut out additional windows because
Windows = Weakness.
1) As soon as you cut into the sides of a steel cargo container, you greatly compromise its structural integrity. Sadly, the world is full of people and companies who learned this the hard way. Windows are a nuisance at best, and deadly at worst.
2) Windows are the best way to let wind and water and critters in.
3) Our structures are virtually maintenance free because they don’t have windows or extra doors. With added windows and doors, containers become like RVs or campers, and you need to check and reseal the windows on a continual basis. If you don’t, they can crack, rain gets in, and you come back to find the structure destroyed.
4) Security. A concern no matter where you are. But especially if you’re leaving your container home for extended periods. With our easy-open container doors and safety locking system, a burglar would have to bring some very serious welding equipment. But if you introduce windows and doors, you might come back to find someone’s not only lived in there, but emptied the place.
Our thinking is: Why give up space, if you’re not getting something strong in return?
If you like doing maintenance, and exposing your home to weather and critters and burglars, perhaps consider buying a wood structure or a camper. We’ve personally witnessed thousands of those kinds of homes get destroyed, and their owners lose it all.
The way we build, all you do is lock up when leave. And when you come back, whether that’s days or decades later, it should look exactly the same — no matter what mother nature threw at it.
Set it and forget it.
